About Dr. Barr
Dale I. Barr, O.D.
I was born in West Germany and, as the son of an career army father, got to travel a lot and spent a lot of exciting time in Germany, Texas, Colorado and Alabama (where I graduated with honors from Daleville High School in the city of Daleville in Dale County). In 1979, I graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Following graduation I worked for many years as an electrical engineer on communication systems and instrumentation systems for Martin Marietta Corporation in Denver and FMC Corporation in San Jose. I worked with video display technologies and created work environments to make them easier and more comfortable to view. I also continued my studies and in 1987 received a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University.
My desire to learn and a need for a career which would help people, led me to return to school full-time again. In 1992 I received a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry. At the school I did research to develop more accurate methods of detecting glaucoma. After graduation, I volunteered to go to Madras, India, to teach optics and contact lens theory at the Elite School of Optometry and to work at the Sankara Nethralaya Medical Research Foundation for four months. There I gained valuable experience with severe ocular conditions such as glaucoma, corneal infections and uveitis. I am a member of the American Optometric Association and the Santa Clara County Optometric Society. I am also the former editor of the monthly newsletter for the local society.
My mission is to give each of my patients excellent eyecare, sharp crisp vision and high quality/high technology materials. I personally pay attention to the design details of every lens. If you have a technical question about lenses please ask; I am not just a doctor, I am an engineer also.
